Racing for Noah's Wish

On June 25th I am hoping to complete my third Ironman triathlon at Ironman Coeur d'Alene. This time around I have new motivation to complete the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and marathon. I am racing to raise money for Noah's Wish through the Janus Charity Challenge. Noah's Wish is a non-profit organization that rescues animals from natural disaster areas. I created this blog to chronicle my efforts. Enjoy!

Help Maddie Help Noah!

Here's the deal folks! I'm entering Maddie's picture from her very first excursion in the snow in a contest at 1-800-PetMeds! The winner receives $1,000! Should we win, I promise to donate half the money to Noah's Wish! That's 500 big ones!

The ten dogs with the MOST VOTES will be the finalists, and the dog with the highest rating of that group will be the winner - so WE NEED YOUR VOTES!

Click here to vote for Maddie! And be sure to pass the message on!

Oh, and whatever you do, DON'T go through and vote for the other dogs and try to "sabotage" them by giving them "1"s! Those 1's still count towards their total! Just vote for Maddie, exit the page, and get yourself a beer. You deserve it! :)

Why I am doing what I am doing ...

Five weeks after Hurricane Katrina a friend of mine went down to New Orleans to do some animal rescue work. The stories he told (of both the human AND animal suffering) were horrifying. He was able to rescue some 30+ animals ... here are some of his pictures of the "lucky" ones:

I have a new partner in crime!

For those of you who don't know, I have a new special someone in my life who is pushing me towards my Ironman goals. This training partner gets me out of bed early, always wants to go for a run, and even paces me!

A few months ago the boyfriend and I adopted a year-ish old black lab from a shelter/rescue group. She was found as a stray in Leavenworth, KS, and was going to be put down by animal control when a fabulous rescue group got ahold of her. We saw her at a Petsmart adoption event and it was love at first sight. We named her Madison after Madison, WI, where Josh and I both did our first Ironmans. Maddie is turning out to be a great running buddy ... I think she knows that I'm doing it to raise money for pups like her!

Welcome to my blog!

I began my fundraising efforts a few months ago and have had pretty good results. This project is turning into something far more rewarding than I could have imagined and I decided to up the effort level. I created this blog to chronicle this journey. The generosity of people is overwhelming at times and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart - it is this generosity and the cause that I am raising money for that has inspired me.

I chose to raise money for Noah's Wish after watching hour upon hour of Hurricane Katrina coverage on CNN. It was during those days that I learned about this wonderful organization and the things they do to help animals trapped in these horrific circumstances. One of the things that I really love about Noah's Wish and their mission is how it is not only animals, but their human counterparts that are helped. People love their pets and the thought of losing one is heart-wrenching. Organizations such as Noah's Wish work to reunite stranded animals with their owns - ending both human and animal suffering!

My original goal was to raise $2,000, but I have decided to up the ante a bit and go for $5,000. That amount seems a long way off right now, but you never know ... maybe I will have to increase the goal again! As of today, I am at $1,000 ... and counting!

More information on Noah's Wish, Ironman Coeur d'Alene and my fundraising efforts are located on the sidebar of this blog. To donate, click on the link that says DONATE!
